Ginger and lemon juice
Ginger and lemon juice
This is my morning shot and sometimes my nightcap. In the morning, before I eat, I put a couple tablespoons of the juice in a mug of hot water. It is a great way to start your day. At night when I feel like I haven’t had enough water during the day, I mix the juice with a large glass of room-temperature water.
Yields: 1.5 litres
Ingredients
4 -5 lemons
Fresh ginger - a large root, the size of your hand
Purified - non-chlorinated water
Steps
Wash your ginger and lemons. If you have Meyer's lemons, leave some of the skin on. If not, peel the lemons. Cut the ginger with the skin on into chunks and put them in your high-speed blender. Fill the blender with purified water. Blend until smooth.
Pour the mixture through a mesh bag or sieve - squeeze to get all the juice out. Discard the pulp.
Put the juice in a container with a lid. It lasts for more than a week in the fridge. I pour about a 1/2 inch in my mug each morning and fill it with hot water. In the summer, it is refreshing to add to cold water.
You can add a liquid sweetener if you like a bit of sweetness.
I use the same mixture to flavour the second fermentation of my water kefir.
